There is a Renaissance Night scheduled for November 24th at Mephistos in Hamtramck. With Bocca Musica and Kevin Tyler providing the entertainment and DJ Glamazon spinning of the dance floor everyone in attendance is sure to enjoy the night. Show up mundane and it will cost $7 to get in, but only $5 for those in garb. Even if you're not going, please pass the word and pass on the fliers so we can reach as many rennies as we can. Sadly, it's a 21 and up night, but if we are successful on the 24th we may be able to schedule an 18+ night down the road.

Give me a shout if you're planning on going.

OK.. The bus has insurance and renewed plates. I just purchased my ticket and camping pass (early bird, $73 total). Now I need to save up money for gas (anyone need a ride, pitch in a $20 is all I'd want, more is up to you), clean up the bus and get it ready, and pack food.

Who else is going?? If you're not a regular get your tickets this month. They are only $56 + $3 handling charge. Camping permit (1 per car so if you're with me you won't really need one) is $14. Want to ride with me?? I'll be taking off late Thursday (I'll want to put in a day of work first then get are far North as I can to get an early spot in line the next morning) and coming back Monday afternoon. Leaving early and late makes the drive easier and maximizes the fun factor or the festival.

Bus Painting Party?? I'm open to ideas on pulling one off, but I'm too broke to do much about paint. We'll see, but the Yellow has to go sooner than later. Odds aren't good that it will happen before Bliss.

Well.. Back to worrying about making the rest of my bills that are all piling up on me at once (damn birthday months).

For those Ren Faire goers, you may know Jackeline Swallows (aka Lisa Boyd) who often haunted the Guinness Pub over the years. Sadly she is no longer with us. She has always been a good friend, kind, and caring person to everyone over the years and will be sorely missed over the years to come. Her obituary is below.

Lisa Ann Boyd, 41, a lifetime Center Line resident, died Saturday, April 7, 2007, in her home. She was born March 23, 1966, in Warren.

Miss Boyd was employed as a cosmetologist for various beauty salons. A 1984 graduate of Center Line High School, she graduated in 2005 from Carnegie Medial Institute as a medical assistant. She was a lifelong patron of the Michigan Renaissance Festival, an avid reader, and was knowledgeable of Celtic history and her family genealogy. Her family described her as an unbelievably kind and outrageously beautiful human being, a loyal and loving daughter, and friend to everyone she met.

Miss Boyd is survived by her mother, Pansie Boyd.

She was predeceased by her father, Dallas Boyd.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Rudy Funeral Home, 25650 Van Dyke, Center Line. Graveside services will be at White Chapel Cemetery, Troy.

Visitation is 1-9 p.m. Friday.

I still suck at keeping up on journals, but I do check my friends page often. Well, I was till 3 or 4 weeks ago. Between being sick 3 out of 4 weeks and the computer having problems (damn power outages at the worst possible times) I've just not gotten back to making LJ part of my daily routine yet. This is my first day logging in in quite a while so if you've written something in the last month odds are that I haven't read it.

All that said, I hope to be back to keeping up with the looking. Doubt I'll ever post on a regular basis. Just not me...

Christmas!

The validity of Christmas!

Not by name, but by tradition, christmas has evolved to mean many things to many people. From flagrant mass consumerism to the misguided holy holiday, one thing still rings true. Peace on earth, good will toward man (generic term for the feminists to bitch about). This is the heart of what is known as the spirit of christmas. Small "C" because the religious connection is tenuous at best. It is, first and form most, a pagan holiday. Actually several pagan holidays with similar themes and purposes wrapped into one by the christians in a grab to increase their body count and control of the world. Nearly every culture that lives in a winter climate has developed a solstice/mid winter celebration with the purpose of cheering people up and remind them that winter is half over. Nearly all of the traditions we have today is the result of blending the pagan celebrations. Then as now, the meaning is still the same. Bring peace and comfort to your fellow man.

Now what is wrong with that? We all could use a little peace and for someone to show us kindness. Why not have a day, nah a season, to celebrate this concept in the hope that we will carry the idea forward throughout the year? No matter what the reason, would gathering on a day to share good times with friends and family be such a bad thing?

Grant it, we have blown the consumerism way over board, but to give from ones heart is a good thing. It does not have to be an expensive gift. Perhaps the gift is just being there. Religion will always argue over who owns the day, but the truth is that it belongs to all of us. Many people of not Christian religions celebrate christmas to some degree. Why? Because the concept that is centered in the holiday is comforting. Oh, and you can't get away from the sales at the stores. Sadly, that has become a major part of christmas too, but for some businesses it is the only way they make it yet another year. Like so many things in life, we end up having to take some of the bad with the good.

For those who would shoot down Christmas by citing specific reasons why it should not exist I ask you to look at the holiday in a more general sense. It is a valid holiday if one only looks at what the core purpose has been since before it was a single celebration. A time of giving, caring, loving and sharing. No matter what your reason for gathering, gather and celebrate the potential goodness man kind is capable of. Prove that man kind is not just a label, but a statement of fact.

OK, I joined LJ just to more or less keep in touch with a few people I am friends with who don't use MySpace. Guess I needed to for a while now, but thanks to Shay I finally caved and added yet another web site to keep track of to my list.

It's been over a year since I dropped off the last journal site and I was not much for chronicling my life for the world to see there either. Guess I tend to be a little private that way. So, if there isn't a lot said here it's not that I'm not around, but that I just don't write that much. I was on SG for a while, but it was so cliquish and I got tired of the emotional roller coaster most of them seemed to be on.

What you are likely to find me do is post random thoughts, poems, song fragments, and other literary things that come to my head.
